C. R. Sandidge
2007 Glam Gams Rosé

The Vintage:  The 2007 vintage was one that kept winemakers on their toes.  A perfect spring and summer played out into mid - October.  The Pinot Noir used to craft this rosé wine was picked September 21st with 25.6 Brix, 6.3g/liter acidity and a pH of 3.76.  The fruit was in great shape upon arrival at the winery.

The Vineyard:  Antoine Creek supplied the Pinot Noir grapes used to make this rosé wine.  The site is located on the west bank of the Columbia River about eleven miles north of Chelan.  Steep coarse sand – stony soils are the terrior the vines thrive in. There is also the occasional granite boulder peaking out from beneath the soil surface here and there. The slope is due east.  One must pay attention to the local rattlesnake population when walking through the vineyard.  Ed Haskell is the vineyard owner – grower and he is a pleasure to work with.

The Winemaking: The grapes were all hand picked and sorted again by hand upon arriving at the winery.  All clusters were de-stemmed and gently crushed into a stainless steel fermentation tank.  After 18 hours of skin contact the juice was separated from the skins and the skins pressed off. The Swiss yeast strain, Wadenswil 27, was used to ferment.  The wine was permitted to ferment down to a residual sugar of 0.6%.  As residual sugar is present in the finished wine, this rosé was tightly filtered at bottling to prevent a re–fermentation in the bottle.

The Wine: The color is a pretty pink with light red tints.  Delicious cranberry, strawberry and watermelon flavors and aromas greet one’s palate.  Our Glam Gams is finished with 0.6% residual sugar and a healthy 6.7 grams of acidity per liter making for a superbly balanced wine.  Match with smoked salmon or cold ham sandwiches.  This wine also makes for a great summer sipper.
